About Us

Hi, I’m Janet Cole—the artist behind Steel & Grain TX.
This business isn’t just a creative venture; it’s a blend of the things I love, the skills I’ve built, and the story God’s been writing all along.

After college, I worked as a computer engineer. But everything changed after the tragic loss of my first husband. (You can read more of that journey in my memoir, Murder to Miracles.) At the time, I was raising my daughter and trying to navigate a new future. Later, I met Jay—the answer to all my crazy prayers and now my husband—and together we opened a gym, working side by side as personal trainers for several years.

Eventually, after a lot of prayer and soul-searching, we felt called to a new chapter. Jay started JC Handyman, focusing on home repair and small remodels, and I followed my heart into woodworking—launching Steel & Grain TX.

So where did the name Steel & Grain TX come from?

When we first started dreaming up this business, the plan was to combine Jay’s metalwork with my woodworking—steel and grain. While Jay's handyman work keeps him busy these days, he still steps in for the occasional custom metal piece. And of course, TX stands for the home we love and the state that inspires it all.

Today, Steel & Grain TX is where art meets function. From inlay cutting boards and wall art to custom signs and home décor, everything is designed and handcrafted here in Perrin, Texas to bring warmth, beauty, and purpose into your home.

Thank you for being here—this little business is a gift I don’t take for granted.
